PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION/SUMMARY

Cultivate a life changing student-athlete experience by providing world class development opportunities and programing. Demand a championship mindset from student-athletes and staff in the holistic development of student-athletes.


 


Duties and Responsibilities

Senior Staff Strategic Leadership

 Be an active member on DIA’s Senior Leadership Staff, engaging in critical group think, committee work and completing special projects;

 Serve as a senior advisor to the executive staff on all student-development initiatives;

 Through tireless collaboration, create a unified environment encompassing all DIA units to appropriately demonstrate DIA’s commitment to a life changing student-athlete experience;

 Demand a championship mindset from staff focused on integrity, individual contribution and accountability, collaboration, and competitive urgency; and

 Serve as a visible, positive ambassador for University of Illinois and DIA in all public-facing responsibilities, creating stronger partnerships with our various communities (local, regional, state, campus, and industry-specific)

Student Athlete Development Programming

 Lead and oversee the operations, planning, and execution of comprehensive student-athlete development program for student-athletes including student-athlete orientation, leadership programming, life skills, career development, and transition to life after sport;

 Promotes the highest levels of achievement in the classroom, within teams, and in life;

 Serve as the liaison between the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and other student support offices on campus;

 Implement career development education for student-athletes;

 Oversee implementation of leadership development programming for student-athletes;

 Oversee creation and implementation of the marketing plan for Student-Athlete Development to include newsletter, programming menu and outreach opportunities;

 Oversee, advise and direct activities of the Executive Board of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee;

 Oversee, advise and direct activities of the Executive Board of student-athlete affinity groups;

 Analyze methods of data collection and program success measurements. Create systems where needed; and

 Provide consistent and frequent communication, training, and resources, verbally and in writing, with administration, staff, and coaches regarding student-athlete development programs and services to create buy-in by constituents.

Community Engagement

 Empower generations of future leaders to embrace their own athletic experiences by intentionally integrating youth engagement with our student-athletes in the competitive arena and via community outreach, thereby role modeling the value of school pride, teamwork, personal growth, competition, inclusion, and leadership;

 Identifies and facilitates community service opportunities; strengthens the University and DIA’s engagement through changemaking and by positively impacting Champaign-Urbana community;

 Cultivate service-learning opportunities through contact with community and social service organizations;

 Coordinate community service initiatives and events on behalf of the athletics department for student-athletes; and

 Create and grow key campus partnerships in the areas of leadership, life skills training, and career services. Leverage existing campus resources and programs to progress student-athletes through the different stages of development.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging

 Engage as a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee to provide key insights on strategic initiatives and collaborations in the Student-Athlete Development and DEIB units

 Serve as an advisor to student-athlete affinity groups;

 Work in conjunction with the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Sport Administration, Inclusion & Student-Athlete Development to establish programming for student-athletes that aids in the development of inclusive leadership skills;

 Identify opportunities for collaborative programming for student-athletes that addresses Student-Athlete Development and DEIB; and

 Represent the DIA as a liaison on Big Ten Conference’s Diversity Roundtable or a related Community & Impact groups.

 Oversee facilitation and teaching for the RST 118 – Freshman Transition to College course; and

 Oversee facilitation and teaching for the RST 199 – Junior/Senior Transition out of sport course.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Required: Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, sport management or related field

 

 

Experience:

Required: Experience in programming; demonstrated personal relations skills in works with student-athletes, peers, staff, and administrative personnel
